The Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System (MBRS) - which includes the local reefs of Mahahual, Costa Maya - extends from the southern half of the Yucatan Peninsula to the Bay Islands of Honduras. It's the second longest barrier reef in the world, and unique in the Western hemisphere due to its length, composition of reef types, and vast diversity of corals and related species.
Mahahual, Costa Maya is a perfect destination for divers of all levels, and non-divers alike. Many of the great dive sites of Mahahual are very near to where we are located, so we don't have to travel far to go diving.
Diving and snorkeling in the Costa Maya is great year round. In winter time, the warm Carribean Sea drops a few degrees, which brings in interesting wildlife from deeper waters, such as dolphins and sharks. In the summer, the Sea is often calm and amazingly blue. The visibility underwater is fantastic: 30 m / 100 ft is not unusual!
Here's a map of a few of the dive sites in the Mahahual and Costa Maya region. This map is however by no means complete!!!
